Our Dojo

Am I too old or unfit?

Our Adults Basic programmes are designed to allow any student (regardless of their age or current fitness level) an access point to an exciting martial arts curriculum that is staggered to ensure everyone can progress at their own speed.

Prior to your first class, we will book you in for a free of charge private session with one of our resident instructors. They will use this time to try and gain an understanding of what you would like to achieve by training within the martial arts. After doing this they will teach you the basic techniques and etiquette involved within the program they think you would enjoy the most. We are sure that you will then be itching to try out your first class!

I'm new to this - can I just come down and have a go?

We always recommend that new students call by or phone up to book in for a free, private introduction session prior to joining any of the classes. This allows us to help you start in the right class and learn the basics of what is involved before joining it. Please contact us to book in for your free no obligation introduction session and let us help you get started in your martial arts training today!

Do I need to book in for classes or can I just turn up?

There is no booking system, please just turn up 5 - 10 minutes prior to your class start time.

What if I have trained before?

That's great. We are always keen to teach students who have experience within the martial arts. We would recommend that you start in the Basic program if you haven't trained for a long time or if the system you were trained in is completely different to our own. This would ease you into training within our school. We are sure that as an experienced student, you would progress quickly into our Black Belt Member (BBM) program and in doing so find a an enjoyable and challenging curriculum.  If you an active and fit person who has had a great amount of experience then it is possible after discussion with our instructors, you may start off in a higher level program and progress from there.

Do I have to fight or spar?

We leave these decisions upto each individual student.  As we are a full time centre, we have programs and classes that cater for everyone. For those that wish to spar and possibly compete, there are seperate sparring classes and high end training programmes.  The majority of classes and programmes do not involve any sparring what so ever.

Do you do private lessons?

Private lessons are available on a one to one basis or for a small group. These can be done at the centre or if it is more convenient, at a location of your choice. Please contact the centre for more details and booking information.

Are the classes difficult?

All the classes that are deemed ALL or BEG on the timetable are there purposefully to help new students learn that particular art form. Each instructor will assist you from the moment you walk through the door to feel comfortable and enjoy your time in the class.

What should I wear?

For a first class, it would be wise to wear loose fitting clothing that moves easily and clean trainers.  Although in capoeira it is best to go barefoot. After your initial session, please seek the advice of your instructor as to whether there is any further requirements for taking part in their classes.

Do I have to be a member?

New class participants are not obligated to become members in their first two weeks of attending sessions.  After this time has elapsed, if they wish to continue attending they will have to become members. There is an annual fee of £20 for studio membership. Although if you are a current dojo member, this is already included in your membership.
